Raquel Gil-Gouveia was elected for the directive board of the European Headache Federation (EHF). The Hospital da Luz neurologist is the second Portuguese specialist to integrate the executive organ of this federation, created in 1992. The European Headache Federation gathers the scientific societies that work in the areas of headache – including the Portuguese Headache Society – and has for goal to raise the awareness of governments, healthcare providers and citizens in general to the personal and socioeconomic impact of headache. At world level, migraine is the second cause of years lived with incapacity, being estimated that one seventh of the population suffers from it . This is a disease for life, often stigmatized, but which can be controlled and treated. The goals of the European Headache Federation for this mandate are already defined: “To return to in-person international congresses (the next already in 2022, in Vienna), promote communication between scientific societies (namely the Society of Internal Medicine and the Society of Neurology), update scientific guidelines and divulge the scientific journal of the federation (The Journal of Headache and Pain)”, explains Raquel Gil-Gouveia, who is the current president of the Portuguese Society of Headache.
