Carlos Robalo Cordeiro, a pulmonologist at Hospital da Luz Coimbra, received the gold medal od Sociedade Portuguesa de Pneumologia, "for the invaluable services provided” to Portuguese pulmonology. The highest distinction of the SPP was delivered during its 34th Congress, held in Albufeira, between 8 and 10 November, and which had the participation of about 800 specialists of this medical area. Also during the congress, the largest national meeting of pulmonology and respiratory pathology professionals, Robalo Cordeiro presented his book 'A communication strategy: SPP 2010-2015' (period during which he was president of SPP). Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, Carlos Robalo Cordeiro has been a physician at the Hospital da Luz Coimbra since 2012 (then Idealmed, having been Chairman of the Medical Council) and in 2016 was elected Secretary-General of the European Respiratory Society. His main areas of activity are obstructive airways diseases (asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and interstitial lung disease (pulmonary fibrosis).
