Sangalhos has won the Hospital da Luz Aveiro Pre-season Tournament , which took place on September 26-27 at Galitos Sports Hall. The competition gathered the basketball men’s senior teams of Galitos, Beira-Mar, Illiabum Club, and Sangalhos Sports Club, which had the opportunity to present the respective teams to members and fans, thus marking the start of the new sports season. Defeating Illiabum in the final by 73-57, Sangalhos conquered the second edition of the tournament, last year won precisely by Ílhavo’s team. In the contest for third and fourth, Beira-Mar got the better of Galitos (65-49). Akoi, Sangalhos number 3, the best scorer in the final with a high-level performance and attaining 32 points, was distinguished with a special award by Hospital da Luz. It was an atmosphere of great enthusiasm, conviviality, and sportsmanship, also with the contribution of Lu, Hospital da Luz mascot. Besides the competition, the tournament held a solidarity dimension through the initiative “You also score”, mobilizing the public to a challenge: the baskets scored during the matches’ half-time period were converted into a donation – 680 euros – to Calioásis , an association that supports families affected by paediatric cancer. Hospital da Luz Aveiro congratulates the four participating teams, with a special compliment to Sangalhos for the triumph .
