Sara Leite, from Hospital da Luz Clínica Santa Maria da Feira, was distinguished with the Clinical Investigation JAC Award for the paper presented in the Cardiology Updating Journey 2024. The work presented was considered by the jury as “the best original research paper in the cardiovascular area in primary healthcare”. Entitled “Cardiovascular risk and LDL therapeutic targets: applicability in the clinical practise of primary healthcare”, the study directed by Sara Leite was carried out along 2023, based on research within the database of patients in the Anta Family Health Unit (Local Health Unit of Gaia/Espinho). “The goal was to identify patients off cholesterol target (or LDL), according to their cardiovascular risk and following the latest clinical guidance, thus allowing to alert the medical community for a better control of this important cardiovascular risk factor”, she explains. The Cardiology Updating Journey took place between the 10 th and 12 th January, in Porto. It celebrated 35 years in 2024 and is presently one of the major national scientific events, being open to all physicians, including non-cardiologists, who may wish to keep up to date in the cardiovascular area.
