Hospital da Luz Setúbal, in collaboration with the Portuguese Society of Arthroscopy and Sports Traumatology (SPAT), organized, in the scope of the ESSKA Fellowship 2018 in Arthroscopy, a symposium on the arthroscopic treatment of knee, shoulder and Achilles tendon injuries. Promoted by ESSKA (European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy), this fellowship started on September 23, including sessions in several European cities, and ended on 11-12 October at Hospital da Luz Setúbal, organized by Henrique Jones, orthopaedic surgeon specialized in Sports Medicine practicing at this unit. To enhance competencies in arthroscopy through contact with world renowned specialists and to develop surgical knowledge through real clinical cases (knee, shoulder and sports traumatology) were the objectives of this symposium. The second day, at Hospital da Luz Setúbal, included the viewing of life-streamed surgeries. Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive technique allowing to access a joint through small incisions in the skin and using an arthroscope. It is used in the surgical treatment of intra-articular problems in large joints, such as the shoulder, knee and hip, but also in small joints, such as the elbow and wrist, and hand and foot joints, among others. It can also be useful in extra-articular situations, such as the Achilles tendon.
