Hospital da Luz Setúbal will carry out on May 12 free screening on skin cancer , the malignant neoplasm most common among the European population. This initiative falls within the scope of the Euromelanoma Day (in 2022, celebrated on May 18) and will be developed by teams of the hospital’s services of Dermatology and Oncology, all those interested being required to prior scheduling. Over the last decades, the number of neoplasms diagnosed worldwide has been progressively raising. Several factors contribute to that, namely: Changes in lifestyle, with higher sun exposure, especially in childhood and adolescence; Higher social awareness to this health problem and, therefore, more screenings and more cases diagnosed. In Portugal, every year, around 12 thousand cases of skin cancer are diagnosed on average. The malignant melanoma: Is not the most frequent skin cancer, but is the most aggressive one; Affects around a thousand Portuguese, every year; Is responsible for the great majority of deaths by skin cancer, especially in younger people. Prevention and early diagnosis are, therefore, essential in skin cancer: all those having multiple moles, moles having suffered an alteration in form, size or colour, or other skin lesions considered suspicious, should do the screening. Prevent melanoma and participate in the screening! Date and place: 2022 May 12, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (C building of the hospital) Scheduling (mandatory): by phone 265 509 200 or at the hospital reception desk
