The sleep multidisciplinary team from Hospital da Luz Guimarães started on November 5 the routine performance of induced sleep endoscopy, also known as DISE . This is a highly differentiated exam used in the accurate diagnosis of sleep obstructive apnea, resorting to an innovative drug. The sleep obstructive apnea and snoring are the most frequent sleep respiratory disorders, and have numerous consequences for health and the intimate and social life of patients. For a more correct procedure of treatment, it is necessary, besides the clinical exam, to have complementary tests for an accurate diagnosis, among which the analysis of drug induced sleep is the latest. In this exam, sleep is induced by anaesthesia. Then, an endoscopy is performed by air , in order to identify, during sleep, the cause and location of the obstruction that leads to snoring and sleep obstructive apnea. This procedure is painless and relatively innocuous, in terms of side effects. DISE is especially indicated in severe cases or when specific treatments are proposed to the patient, but this one does not accept other therapies.
