It is the most frequent cancer in men – 4,000 cases are detected every year, in Portugal – and it is known that one out of six men over 65 will develop prostate cancer, its evolution depending on the stage it is detected. Therefore, “even without symptoms”, men over 50 should see the doctor regularly and do the specific analysis and screening for prostate cancer , as explained by Sónia Rego , in an interview on Porto Canal. The Hospital da Luz oncologist was the guest in the TV show “Consultório”, on that channel, in the context of the World Cancer Day, celebrated on February 4. She further explained what the prostate is and why it is important to be alert to certain warning signs, what are the exams that men should do and what they consist of and, in the case of a cancer diagnosis, which are the possible treatments. “This is a type of cancer with a good prognostic, when detected in an early stage”, she highlighted.
