On March 6, the European Day of Speech and Language Therapy, Hospital da Luz Setúbal will offer speech and language free screenings , destined to children aged 3 to 8. This screening is important to identify eventual alterations that may hinder the development of communication and also at other levels, namely in reading and writing learning. In particular, attention should be payed to children showing any of the following behaviours: Using more gestures than words to indicate what they want; Omitting or swapping sounds or syllables in words; Not articulating words well; Using a speech not comprehended by all. Speech therapy in pre-school and school-aged children concerns essentially the difficulties in articulating the speech sounds and delays in the development of language, often responsible for problems in reading and writing learning.
