A group of Engineering students from Instituto Superior Técnico took, in May, a visit to the Centre of Training, Research and Innovation of Hospital da Luz Learning Health . At the Centre of Simulation, they had the opportunity to watch demonstrations of the different simulators available – equipment with state-of-the-art technology, combining virtual reality, augmented reality and high-fidelity, some of them studied in IST degrees, and which are nowadays indispensable for training and education in the area of health. The students also visited part of Hospital da Luz Lisboa, where they observed much of the imaging equipment that is part of the learning during training. Hospital da Luz Learning Health is a company of Luz Saúde group dedicated to activities of training, research and innovation. Besides the demonstration sessions with simulators, these Técnico students contacted with Luz Saúde engineers , that transmitted them their vision of how engineering and technology, together, can and are transforming medicine and clinical practice. Hospital da Luz Learning Health also has the mission of contributing for an environment open to innovation in health, in Portugal . This visit was, therefore, an opportunity to offer the future generations of Portuguese engineers a better knowledge of what is done presently in the area in our country, which is in the forefront in terms of technology.
