I am certain that we will continue to feel great pride in the work here performed.” The first words of Isabel Vaz, Luz Saúde CEO, in the inauguration ceremony of Hospital da Luz Clínica Vila Franca de Xira, this morning, were first of all addressed to the team daily giving life to this new unit in Hospital da Luz Network. But afterwards the president of the Group expressed a word of acknowledgement to its “partners” in this important investment of Luz Saúde in the region: Santa Casa da Misericórdia, the municipal authorities and, in particular, the public institutions of the National Health Service: “We are partners with you, united by the patients. This is a social investment alongside the NHS. We are not enemies, and we share the same goal: providing the best for all those who seek and need us”. On its turn, Pedro Patrício, general director of Hospital da Luz Clínica Vila Franca de Xira, started by saying that this is “the first unit of Luz Saúde group in the Ribatejo region and it will not be the only one!” , meaning the new Hospital da Luz Ribatejo that is already under construction in Santarém and is expected to open doors in the beginning of 2027. “We have made a 20 million investment in four thousand square meters to build a next generation health centre capable to respond to all needs of health follow-up and disease prevention, in every area, for the population of Vila Franca de Xira”, he said, further adding: “We have invested in high-end equipment and quality infrastructures, but most of all we have invested on people”. And he thanked everyone in the team of the new clinic, namely its clinical director, Pedro Jerónimo Sousa, and responsible manager, Joana Woss. Still regarding the clinic, the general director made a point of reminding that, besides its response capacity and easy access to all primary care, “it counts with the support of the whole Hospital da Luz Network and its high differentiation”, a network that will soon also count with the new Hospital da Luz Ribatejo. An example to be followed Lastly, and before unveiling the plaque marking the inauguration date of the Clinic, the mayor, Fernando Paulo Ferreira, pointed out that “this is an example of partnership”, that the municipality is always interested in promoting in the district: “Both private and public entities have conditions for mutual assistance on behalf of the population. The inauguration ceremony of Hospital da Luz Clínica Vila Franca de Xira, held today in the premises of the new unit, counted with the presence of the region’s leading figures. Besides the mayor, were present in the ceremony the municipal vice-president, Marina Tiago, and the councillor for Culture and Social Action, Manuela Ralha, as well as the presidents of the parish councils of Alverca, Alhandra, Póvoa de Santa Iria and Vila Franca de Xira. The managing director of Santa Casa da Misericórdia in the city, Armando Carvalho, and the president of ULS Tejo were also present. After the speeches and once the plaque unveiled – by Pedro Patrício, Isabel Vaz, Fernando Paulo Ferreira, and Armando Carvalho – a visit to the premises was undertaken, during which the guests had the opportunity to better acknowledge the quality of services provided by Hospital da Luz.
